For Glamping near Hull (three words not often run together!!!
Brilliant by Tom Gauld in today’s Guardian

We have all met again, bar one, who sticks to Messenger. Not so old, old and very old have dabbled again in the early hours.
Who'd have thought
nine days of swimming
would have brought such
Joy?
The kilometre has been plod
and it is good!
And why nine days,
Not ten?
Tomorrow,
Jab2 calls early doors.
That's even more important
than a ten day run

So this week saw... More Covid lockdown More not seeing the children More (but new) exam chaos More job losses More destruction of a worthwhile future More avoidance of any responsibility But... But... Back to a mile in the pool No Japanese whaling fleet after me Trunks too tight Not living up to the title Speedo But... Back to the mile Something to smile about For now...
The mile is the goal The kilometre the stepping stone Quite a big stepping stone But been there before... Ever onward!
There you are The two of you Wittering, wittering, wittering As you paddle slowly up the pool You witter As you slump in the Hydro You witter Then , then You invade my space My precious quiet time In the sauna you camp at either end and you witter You witter about funerals You witter about PNE you just witter For you it may pass the time But for me, for me, well - You suck life out of me.
Gliding through the water An effortless stroke and kick Like an otter watching intently Head slightly to one side You glide into the morning light
We are the Big Boys We own the middle lane We are here to thrash the water into submission. Armed with every accessory we power through the water with flippers to flagellate hand paddles to pummel Resistance is useless! Water give in! But Stop! We need to confer Training notes out we stand like meerkats Clock watching we wait and wait Before we're off again Thrash Crash Splash the water can only succumb Yet the water lets you play with her. And one day She'll turn and have you for breakfast.
MORNING! I stalk towards the pool and am already enraged by some great or little failing. I can swim powered by crossness Arms flailing like a whirling dervish I go nowhere fast. 30 minutes pass Swimming stops I stalk to the Hydro - too cool! I stalk to the steam room - tepid! I stalk to the plunge pool - empty! I stalk to the changing room and prepare for the day. Powered by crossness I am ready for all today's challenges.
